This past week one of our greatest Olympic athletes, Simone Biles was in the middle of her balance beam routine when suddenly…

She messes up!

Her footing is bad,

She's leaning now, about to fall off when all of a sudden…

She gets ahold of her balance!

The audience cheers and she continues.

As impressive as that is, I believe catching herself mid routine is the best example of balance I've seen recently. (Steve from above would agree.)

Now realistically we can't all be 4ft 8in Olympic gold gymnasts.

(Although I heard they’re including the world's best stretching newsletter for the 2028 games, so there's that…)

But our bodies are meant to move.

And as we age (like most things - mobility/flexibility included), the saying:

“Use it or lose it”

Only holds more weight and truth.

And just like Simone, we need to constantly be working on movements that make “catching ourselves” a knee-jerk reaction.

Here’s an easy way to check in with yourself and see where your balance is at.👇

Move of the week

Try balancing on each foot while you’re brushing your teeth, flossing or waiting for the coffee to brew.

See how long you can go for on each side without holding onto the counter (and be sure to have a slight bend in that standing leg). 😊

If you can invest a minute a day you’ll reap the rewards over time!

As I imagine with Simon Biles and other Olympic athletes… we non-Olympic athletes are no different.

“Consistency is key!”

And when you wobble or falter in your routine/habits, you course correct and continue walking the beam.
